Beware of robot uprising

My friend Anna's boyfriend has written a marvelous book about how to survive the inevitable robot attack! You can even buy it on Amazon and the like, isn't that fancy?

Genius Awards

Helio Sequence performed at the SAM last night for the Stranger's Genius Awards. As usual, they rocked! If you haven't seen them live, go do it, NOW! They are one of those bands that are pretty good on the album, and totally amazing live.

General Exam

I Passed!!!
I'm now a fancy-schmancy PhC!

Ok, the hilarious part is that as I was setting up to give my powerpoint presentation, I spilled coffee on my laptop keyboard. Expletives flew out of my mouth, I turned the computer upside down and shook wildly, then used napkins to dab up the rest. Good thing that laptop keyboards are so shallow - I was able to soak it all up. Of course, not without pressing lots of buttons and inserting random slides into my talk! This all happened about 2 minutes before my committee started entering the room, yet I somehow managed to pull it off, and my computer didn't even explode!

This is my dining table, which became a desk for 6 weeks while preparing for the exam.

Yay for electricity!

Holy shit! There is a brilliant woman out there who is so amazing she wants to share her brilliance by telling us all how to make an LED tanktop!!! Check it out! She makes math and science look COOL and FUN!

Thanks to Andrew F. for distracting me with this when I should be preparing for my general exam. Now I just want to drop out of school and make wearable electronics.

"like ice cream"

This is a description of the effort to clean up the Superdome in New Orleans after the madness of housing hurricane Katrina evacuees. The description is not lacking in grotesque imagery. God bless the BBC.
"It was covered in trash and the restrooms were absolutely filthy. The toilets had feces three inches above the seat. The bowl was full and it was sitting atop that like ice cream, and even the sinks and the floor had been used."
